This Polynesian lower leg sleeve designed for Jackie is all about the
ocean and it creatures, as well as protection: the back of the leg
includes two tiki and an all-seeing eye, while shark teeth for
protection in water are all around the leg.
On top of the back part there are also ancestors protecting family unity
(flax leaves).
The waves with a row of people and all types of sea creatures below them represent the ocean and people diving to experience the underwater life (the lokahi on top symbolizes harmony and balance between the world of people, spirits, and nature, as this is how the ocean must be approached).
The ahuahu o Mataora motif represents the steps to joy and success, symbolized by the sun.
The turtle is central as it also represents family and we placed a dolphin, a hammerhead shark, a manta, and a whale shark on the sides, with fish going all around the leg.
The stepping stones at the base represent things achieved, and the rocky bottom of the ocean in this design.
Spearheads and octopus tentacles represent the warrior, who takes the steps of Mataora toward success.
